NGC 7000, commonly called the “North American Nebula” is located in the constellation Cygnus and is classified as an “emission” nebula, a cloud of ionized gas which is usually formed from photons or nearby hot stars (Ionization occurs when atoms gain or lose electrons). The color of an emission nebula depends on two factors; the chemical makeup of the gas cloud and the degree of ionization. Although not shown, NGC 7000 is a deep reddish color due to its amount of hydrogen present.
